Sebastian Samur

PhD Graduate


Sebastian X Samur is a performer and doctoral graduate at the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies (University of Toronto). His primary interest is actor training and its various manifestations. This has led him to train with various companies, including SITI Company, Odin Teatret, Roy Hart Theatre, Mime Omnibus, the Dairakudakan butoh troupe, and the Grotowski Workcentre. He is currently examining the role rhythm plays for performers. Sebastian is also interested in intermedial theatre, which he explores through the university’s Digital Dramaturgy Lab. He was co-artistic director of the Festival of Original Performance in 2017, and has assisted in organizing theatre trips within Toronto, to Ottawa, New York, and to the Festival d'Avignon, in France. He has volunteered with the Centre's graduate students union and currently sits as board member for the Canadian Association for Theatre Research and the Société Québécoise d'études théâtrales. Some of his writing can be found in Theatre Research in Canada, Canadian Theatre Review, Jeu, and Stanislavski Studies.
