Peter Freund has been Technical Director (Undergraduate) at the Centre for Theatre, Drama, and Performance Studies since 1989. Until 2018, he also taught in the Centre. He has extensive experience in many areas of theatrical production, including stage and production management, lighting design, multimedia presentations, and set construction.
Peter joined the Canadian Actors Equity Association in 1975. His professional experience includes work at numerous theatres across Canada such as Factory Theatre, Toronto Free Theatre, The National Arts Centre, Theatre Passe Muraille, and touring up to the Yukon. He toured with George F. Walkers Theatre of the Film Noir to British Columbia and Great Britain, and toured with Teatro Jiminex from Mexico City to Quebec, France, Florida, and Mexico. Internationally, he has designed lights in Miami, Mexico, England, and France. Within the Centre Peter has designed lights for many of the undergraduate productions, managed international presentations of the Centre’s shows as well as assisted international artists and companies visiting the Centre.
In addition to teaching at the Centre for Theatre, Drama, and Performance Studies, Peter has taught in a variety of environments, including community theatres, youth theatres, and other educational institutions. Peter is always interested in seeing the imaginative and creative work of the Drama Centre’s alumni.
