Biography

Originally from Tehran, Iran, and currently based in Toronto, Amin Azimi is a Ph.D. student at the University of Toronto's Center for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies. His fields of interest as a university lecturer, dramaturg and researcher include the study of the Evolution of Dramaturgy in the twenty-first century, Aesthetics and Dramaturgical aspects of Post-Dramatic Theatre, The policies of production and representation of Iranian social movements on international theatre stages, as well as Digital Storytelling and Intermedial Performances.

In addition to publishing academic articles in international journals such as Asian Theatre Journal, Alternatives Théâtrales and Theater der Zeit, he has directed several plays by Georges Perc, Peter Shafer, and Alireza Naderi. Also, as a dramaturg, he worked on the Oedipus on the Road project, directed by Fabrice Nicot, which was staged at the Saint Germain Auditorium in Paris. His essays in various specialized Iranian theatre publications have been recognized as "the best Theatre Criticism" several times by the Iranian Theatre Critics, Writers and Researchers Association (ITCRJ), of which he is also a member since 2004. 

His most recent creative work includes writing the play Ain't, staged in Tehran City Theater and creating an experimental short film "Cookies and Black Hole" in 2021; also presenting a lecture about the achievements of Iran's contemporary theatre in Toronto.
