Mavis McMillan

Biography

Mavis McMillan is an incoming MA student at the University of Toronto's Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies. They recently received their HBA in Dramaturgy and Drama Studies, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and English at U of T Mississauga. Mavis' theatre practice includes playwriting, with recent explorations in the medium of text collage. They were a Fringe North 2021 Emerging Artist in Residence, receiving Notable Newbie for their detective play The Vinyl Problem. Their play The Nows (adapted from their audio drama The Nows of Milton II & the Nearly Twenties, based on The Great Gatsby) received a staged reading at PlaySmelter 2024 as part of Pat the Dog's Northerners in Residency program. Mavis is particularly interested in audience engagement as part of contemporary theatre practice.
