Biography

Meera Kanageswaran is a passionate dancer, dedicated teacher, and an avid storyteller. She is currently a PhD student at the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies. She holds an MFA in Dance from York University. Her MFA thesis Introspection into the Evolution of Bharathanatyam in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora During and Post Civil War examines dance works produced by diasporic Tamil artists during the civil war period in Sri Lanka. As part of her MFA thesis Meera created two dance films, Iḻappu and Isolation. Meera is the principal teacher at Mississauga-based dance school, Confidance Bharatham, which she founded in 2006. Her recent choreographic works include Destructive Desires, Let’s talk about it and Balancing on the Hyphen. Meera’s current research critically examines contemporary Bharathanatyam pedagogy.
