Biography

Raphael Glazov is a current PhD student at the University of Toronto’s Center for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies. He is an imaginative actor, director, and storyteller. Raphael holds a BA Cum Laude in Fine Art, with a minor in Theatre Performance from Seton Hall University, and a BA with First-Class Honours in Theatre Studies from the University of King’s College. Raphael’s current research examines the plays of William Shakespeare through the lens of fairy stories, as defined by scholars and authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien. He began this work as the focus of his MA at the Center for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies, and hopes to develop it further as he continues his education at U of T.

Raphael has always found an interest in theatre and the fantastical, from the interest he had in plays during his childhood in England, to his obsession with and performance in many Summer Shakespeare camps he attended during his high school years in New Jersey, to the productions that he has been fortunate enough to participate in throughout his university career up until the present. His love of Renaissance art and literature continues to influence the projects he creates and fill the worlds he shares with various audiences.
