Encounters Residency Workshop: Creative agency, structured play: action and contact in the performer's craft
When and Where
Description
Led by Felicita Marcelli, Graziele Sena, Agnieszka Kazimierska, and Pauline Laulhe of the Open Program (Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards)
Participants will have an opportunity to approach basic elements of the actor’s craft through various structured sessions, including singing, dancing, and games. Through a variety of approaches and perspectives on the work of the actor, the participants will have a possibility to discover and grow what is alive and fertile specifically for each of them, and to bring these discoveries into their individual acting work.
Singing and dancing are at the very basis of theater craft: they allow a space for interaction and for playing – games of seriousness and of levity alike. The work relating to song and dance will also serve as preparation for participation in the public performative event on the last day of the residency. Participants who wish to do so, will assist the performers of the Open Program in the presentation of the Open Choir – an encounter through singing that is free and open to everyone. No prior professional or technical singing experience is required for participation in this work.
Preparation for the work with song and dance
Participants are asked to bring elegant, colorful clothes for the singing sessions: something one might wear for a special occasion. Women who wish to do so are encouraged to bring long skirts or dresses to play with.
Preparation for the physical games in the space
For these sessions, participants are asked to bring a black bathing suit. Please also bring some additional dark, comfortable (i.e., neither too loose, nor constraining) clothes, in case it’s cold.
