The Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies offers a wide range of theatre, studio, and meeting facilities, many of which are available for rental. Rental fees vary by facility and rental availability may be limited during the school year in order to accommodate student programming (September through May). Students receive priority for booking rental spaces. The Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse Theatre is not available for rentals between September and April.
To initiate a rental inquiry, please review the guidelines and complete and submit the CDTPS rental application form below. A minimum of 10 business days are required in order to process a request.
Guidelines for rental
Rental requests are accepted and considered only after internal program requirements have been fulfilled.
Commercial ventures that are in direct competition with our own internal programs will not be accommodated.
Theatre rentals
We are currently only renting the Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse. The theatre is available for rent April to August. We are in the process of moving into our new facility at University College and will have updates on the availability of our exciting new spaces in 2023.
A comprehensive general liability insurance policy, covering bodily injury and property damage, with inclusive limits of at least $2,000,000 must be supplied in order for a rental to be confirmed*. A "rider" on the certificate must name "The Governing Council of the University of Toronto" as an additional ‘named insured’. Rental confirmation will occur only after the certificate of insurance is supplied. *Rental groups comprised entirely of students and faculty members are not required to provide insurance, however, a valid membership card or guest pass is required to access the facility during the rental period.
